The Morning After Election 2012

I am shocked.

Horrified.

Stunned.

Disbelieving.

Grieving the loss of my country,

the downfall of a nation that was once a shining light of truth

in a dark world.

This morning, I’m sick to my stomach.

Dismayed.

Disappointed.

Sobered by the awareness of the disasters to come.

Disasters like…

Obamacare

A nuclear Iran

The fast approaching fiscal cliff of our debt

The Social Security shortfall

Al Qaeda very much NOT on the run, but alive and actively our enemy

Terrorists emboldened by the debacle at Benghazi.

Economic depression

Having to walk everywhere because gas is too expensive

or ride my bike.

Gun Control

Crime Uncontrolled

Streetlights no longer lit because no one can afford to replace burned out lamps

or stolen copper wires

Increasing vandalism and graffiti

Increasing food prices

Higher taxes

China taking over Japan without anyone to stop it

(And thus we have the King of the East)

The gutting of our military through budget cuts

The implosion of our military because of a dishonorable commander-in-chief who who actively disdains and betrays it

Rolling blackouts when caps or excessive taxation are imposed on our electrical energy producers

Mandatory flu shots

People fighting over bread in the streets when there isn’t enough at the free food distribution sites for all the folks who want it

Repression and persecution of true Christianity

Increasing natural disasters

Military defeat

Invasion of enemy forces

(or collusion by the majority with enemy forces they don’t see as enemies)

The fall of the once great United States of America

**

There are some who say we committed suicide as a nation yesterday.

I think we started that quite some time ago,

moving gradually away from Biblical Christianity

and the pure teaching of the Word to become a people

“who would not endure sound doctrine,

but,

wanting to have their ears tickled,

accumulated for themselves teachers  in accordance with their own desires;

and, turning away their ears from the truth,

have been turned aside to myths.”

(my paraphrase of 2 Ti 4:3,4)

**
Repeatedly the Lord says in Scriptures that for the sake of the righteous He will withhold punishment.

If there had been 10 righteous souls (believers) in Sodom, He would have spared it. (Gen 18:32)

If there had been a single man in Jeremiah’s Jerusalem (aside from Jeremiah himself) who lived rightly and sought truth (ie, God’s word), He would have pardoned the whole. (Jer 5:1)

“O LORD, do not Thine eyes look for truth (and faithfulness to it)?
Thou has smitten them, but they did not weaken;
Thou has consumed them,
But they refused to take correction.
They have made their faces harder than rock;
They have refused to repent.
(Jer 5:3)

*

This is us as a nation.

And sadly, it is many of those who call themselves Christian today:

“rebellious children, who execute a plan, but not His,
who make an alliance (with the world), but not of His Spirit;
who proceed down to Egypt without consulting Him…
…Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame,
and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation…”
(Is 30:1-3)

Karen, I am not American, but I watched the election results as they came in all evening yesterday. I, too, was shocked at what happened. This is not good news for Canada, just as it is horrific for the United States. I am so saddened for the millions who are blinded by what is going on behind the scenes.

Frank Peretti posted this on Facebook today – very well said:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”
    ― Alexis de Tocqueville

We were past this point a long time ago, but yesterday’s election has confirmed that America has turned a mortal corner. Our children or their children may see a new America rise from the ashes of this once great nation, but only after we the people endure some hard-learned lessons.

Many did, sacredstruggler… But as Karen said above, “And sadly, it is many of those who call themselves Christian today:

‘rebellious children, who execute a plan, but not His,
    who make an alliance (with the world), but not of His Spirit;
who proceed down to Egypt without consulting Him…
…Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame,
and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation…’
    (Is 30:1-3) ”

Karen, I’m with you. For starters, it seems sacredstruggler and about half the country have NO CONCEPT of trillion. The US has blown through over $2 trillion dollars in 15 months. That is a staggering, staggering amount of money.

For example, if the population of Erie, Pennsylvania or South Bend, Indiana or Everett, Washington each paid $10,000 in taxes to the federal government… EVERY DAY SINCE CHRIST WAS BORN…
That would be LESS THAN 3/4 trillion dollars.

    Let’s try another way:

If every person in Denver, Colorado or Seattle, Washington or Louisville, Kentucky paid $10,000 in taxes a year to the federal government for 16,667,000 YEARS they would get to $1,000,000,000,000.

And we blew through over $2,000,000,000,000 in fifteen (15) months?

Thanks, KC. I think you’re right about people not having a good concept of what a trillion is. The “Conservatism is Calling” video I put up the other day makes a stab at it, but in the end for me, and no doubt many others, my comprehension subsides into “lots and lots,” or “just this side of infinite” which I also can’t really comprehend. I think the description that’s most impacting for me is if we took all the assets of all the “rich people”, the combined sum wouldn’t even come close to paying down the debt for some inordinate amount of years. 60? 160? …hmm, A quick Google check doesn’t resolve my question, so I’ll leave it at that.

Money is not my priority. Life is my priority. I am willing to pay a lot more taxes before I see someone die because they didn’t have enough money to pay for their operation. What are you willing to do to bring down the deficit since that seems to be the number one priority to you.

I’ve had longer to come to terms with these things than you have, primarily because I never embraced the delusion about Mitt Romney that came into fashion. When Romney won the nomination, it became clear to me the country was on the decline and under a time of judgment or trial. Romney was and is a pathological liar. Probably one of the most obscene, horrible candidates the GOP has ever nominated. People were convinced he was a man who had “moral, biblical values.” But like his religion (Mormonism) it was all a superficial parody of all that we hold dear. He was a surface level man, with surface level ideas. He was Obama-lite, and never had a single principle in his body that was set in stone. That’s why it was such a landslide against him. He didn’t give anyone a reason to vote for him. And even if he won, there would be nothing different. His incompetence is only excelled by his Mormon blustering, which is probably why almost every single analyst on our side predicted a landslide, but in Romney’s favor.

Whatever the case, what has happened has happened with permission of God. We trust not in man, but in the God who can save our souls spiritually and save us or destroy our country temporally. It is all in His hands, and we have nothing to fear.

      Thanks for the comment, Ricardo.

While I have believed our country is on the decline long before Romney came along, and was not at all happy with the selection of a member of the Mormon church as our candidate, I didn’t feel as intensely negative toward Romney as you have expressed here. At least he presented the image of someone who is establishment-oriented, and conservative economically and militarily, as well as being supportive of Israel. Whether that was all a lie or not, I don’t know. (Certainly there are questions when it comes to the matter of Obamacare/Romneycare)

I do know that the man we now have in office is unquestionably a liar, probably pathological, and a narcissist who hates and loathes this country, to boot.

I also agree wholeheartedly with your final assessment that this has all happened by God’s permission, that He still controls history and that it is all in His hands. I wasn’t expressing fear so much as mourning, because I think we may all have some very hard times ahead of us. I know He will protect, but suffering is part of the Christian life (it is appointed to us to suffer for His name sake) and never easy. Plus there are so many avenues of trouble.

More than anything, though, I think I felt dismay to know that SO many people do not at all see the world from my perspective. It’s almost incomprehensible to me that anyone could ever under any circumstances vote for Obama. And here half our country did just that!

“At least he presented the image…”

And that is the essential spirit of Mormonism, and also the fundamental spirit of Christians in this day and age. Romney is the definition of the white-washed tomb, as was the GOP convention itself. Just a bunch of dead people walking around, waiving and smiling and doing a little dance. A Mormon even led the prayers on the last day of the convention. It was like watching the money-changers moving into our political temples not only without resistance, but with praise and glory rained down upon them. That was certainly my impression, especially with what happened with the delegates when Romney’s team was pushing the rule changes. Mind you, the same can be said of Obama and the rest. But what upset me wasn’t that they were corrupt liars. What upset me was that Christians would bless them, wishing them “God Speed” while at the same time falsely claiming that these people were of God, as if to say that God approves of their sin.

It occurred to me that Romney ended up being our nominee because he was a reflection of the spiritual condition of Christians in the United States today. (I would make the same comparison with Obama.) There is no question that he is a liar, though there is little point in proving it (unless you asked me to). It is enough to say that it is utterly breathtaking the total extent of how almost every statement he made during the primaries was utterly deceptive, or designed to be deceptive while technically relating a fact, like a devil speaking lies like truth. It got to the point that even his smile caused me to shudder, because I knew what was behind it. Like Christianity today, Romney gave the image of being righteous, but lacked all the power thereof. His righteousness was skin deep, and his inner decay stank to such a degree that his wicked stench seemed to infect the entire party itself. Mitt was the image of Christianity that is a mere parody and shadow of itself. He was the leader of a battle that was lost the day he was nominated. All that we have seen, which climaxed on November the sixth, was quite simply a running joke. But no one is laughing.

Romney lost VA, OH, possibly Florida, and every other state his surrogates in the media claimed he would win. Depending if Florida ultimately gets called for Obama, which probably it already has (but I only got home just now), that would mean Romney is losing by more than a 100 electoral college votes. Karl Rove and Dick Morris predicted that Romney would win by a “landslide” equal to the same amount of EC’s that Romney ended up losing by. Mitt was even bragging that he didn’t bother to write a concession speech since they were so sure of how big they would win.
