Ospreys as I’ve Never Seen Them

“Do you know know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired… and to him who lacks might, He increases power.

Though youths grow weary and tired and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength;

Tthey will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not grow weary.” ~Isaiah 40:28-31

This passage has long been one of my favorites. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the imagery of eagle’s wings, and the fact that when eagles hunt they rest, letting the wind carry them along. God’s provided everything for them to do their “job” of finding food: sharp eyes, feathered wings, deadly talons.  So many great analogies there to the Christian Way of Life (in fact I did a blog post on this very subject six years ago called Reflections on Soaring.) mostly about resting and waiting for the Lord and using what God has given us…

So when my husband sent me the following video of an osprey at work, I was enthralled.  Though technically not an eagle, ospreys are in the same Order
(Accipitriformes) as eagles. However, specialized hunting behaviors  and physical characteristics like a reversible rear toe have led taxonimists to give the osprey its own separate family. So I don’t think I”m too off using the osprey as an illustration of the eagle.

In this video, one not only has the opportunity to watch them soar, but spot the prey and when then they find it, dive: that is,  tuck, point the head down and fall. What a metaphor that is.

You see it all in this video, and more. I had no idea the kinds of very large prey an osprey can take. Nor that they could actually go completely underwater.  Watching God’s creatures, I’m continally amazed at His design.

Amazing Love

This is my Easter Greeting for for my readers.

I found it on You Tube, uploaded by on Apr 17, 2008. Video from The Passion of the Christ, the song You are My King, written by Chris Tomlin,  the singer, Candi Pearson.

This presentation makes me think of all that He did, and just how amazing His love is. I cannot watch it without crying.

200 Mile Relay Race

Well, somehow another week has passed and I haven’t managed to get a post up. We had a sort of mini-Bible conference over the weekend, with close friends coming into town to visit. All very exciting and stimulating, but also exhausting.

Anyway, none of that has anything to do with the title of this post, so I’ll get off the update and on with the post…

Recently my husband was invited to participate in a 200 mile relay race. He will be on a team of 12 runners, each of whom will do three legs of varying distances and difficulty. My husband has one “very hard” leg, one “hard” leg and one “easy” one. The hard and very hard legs account for 15.5 of his total 19.7 miles. The entire race is expected to take about 27 hours. There will be two vans for the team to bring each runner to the “exchange points” between legs.

As part of preparing for this race, one of his friends sent him the following video of a “typical conversation between a runner about to do a relay race and a non runner”. It’s done via the same animation program that was used for the “I Don’t Care –Obama is Awesome”  clip I posted some time ago.

We watched it together the other night and laughed our heads off, so I thought I’d share it. The details given by the animated runner are more or less consistent with what my husband will be doing, except for the price — though he did have to pay for the privilege of running. (Nor will he be a part of one of those “Ultra” Teams, either). The questions asked and exclamations uttered by the non runner pretty much parallel my own, as the non runner in our family.

Thus, without further ado:

Silly Sheep

The Bible often refers to God’s people as sheep. Jesus, asking Peter if he loved Him, told him to “Feed my sheep”.  The psalmist places himself in the position of a sheep when he claims the Lord as his shepherd. Jesus, Himself, in John 10 calls himself the Good Shepherd, who lays down His life for the sheep.

If you know anything at all about sheep, you must know they are renowned for being stupid and flighty. They tend to be herd bound, will drink bad water if they find it, inexplicably leave good pasture to feed on weeds… And they are very fearful. Of almost everything.

Well, the following video serves as a great visual for just how fearful they are of things that don’t warrant any fear whatsoever (much like human beings) and how they will let habit, and something that moves in the right ways drive them hither and yon (or just keep them in the barnyard), regardless of whether that something has any real power over them.

So maybe the following is not only a great visual aid, but a wonderful metaphor as well.

With that I present… Champis the swedish rabbit, who has learned to herd sheep from watching the trained sheepdogs. In fact, a sheep dog trainer says the rabbit does it better than most dogs!

My Favorite Super Bowl Commercial

Yes, I watched this year’s Super Bowl, though I’m only mildly interested in football. But my hubby went off to the exercise club and left it on so I could watch the commercials. So that’s what I sat down to do. Mostly I thought they were… meh.  They made me feel alienated from our culture. I do realize they are not aimed at me. However… one of them stood out. It had to be my favorite simply because of its name:  Go Run, Mr. Quiggly! Plus I think it’s funny.

If you didn’t see it… here it is. Of course, as most of you know, my Mr. Quigley  spells his name differenlty and doesn’t look anything like than this one.

NFL PlayOff John 3:16

I thought this was very cool. I read last week that the playoff game between the Patriots and the Broncos was expected to be watched by a record number of people. So when my football fan friends told me about the commercial that Focus on the Family aired during the game I had to go searching. And found it. It’s cool enough and good enough and clear enough… I’m sharing it.

In the middle of the televising of the NFL Playoff games they have a “ad” like this. And it costs the viewer nothing. I believe this is directly the result of Tim Tebow having a platform and using it to draw attention to his Lord.  It’s amazing what God is doing in these last days…

Who Trashed the House?

After all that serious stuff I’ve been doing in the last few posts, I thought now might be the time to share another dog video from Life With Dogs TV.

In this we have to do a bit of detective work involving several suspects… Jed, Xena and Tank… hmmm…  Make sure your sound is on.

Enjoy

The Beauty of Pollination

Here’s an amazing, slow motion video showcasing the breathtaking beauty of God’s creation in action, and the way life is passed on through pollination… flowers, fruit, seeds…. Birds and bees and bats and butterflies.  It gave me chills at times, made me cry at others, both of which I do when I’m strongly moved.

Make sure you hit full screen as soon as you start playing it to get the full effect. If you wait til later in the playback it tends to hang up. Oh, and it’s better with sound, so make sure your speakers are on.

This video is made available through TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), a small non profit organization formed to gather and freely share ideas worth spreading from the world’s leading thinkers and doers.

THIS video  also about fruit and seeds, vines and leaves, is made available through Lighthouse Bible Church, another small, non profit organization formed to freely share thoughts and information more worthy of spreading than anything the world’s leading thinkers and doers could ever imagine! That is, the Word of God.

(Sorry, the parallel was too close and I just couldn’t help myself! 😀 )

Laughter is Good

It’s been a good week. I’ve been busy getting caught up, and even made some headway on Sky. All the way to page 14 of ch 2, and hopefully will finish it today or tomorrow.  But it’s not left me much time to write many blogs.

So… I’ve got another video to share. I found this one quite by accident on a site called Life With Dogs. It makes me laugh so hard I cry. Maybe it’s a dog person’s thing. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen Quigley be this weird. Maybe it’s because it’s Julia Roberts the dog doesn’t like…

Anyway, if you need some laughter today… here you go.
